Summer Guide: Usage of rainwater
Rainwater is an important part of the water cycle. It replenishes bodies of water and thus contributes to their preservation. Sustainable use of rainwater in residential areas helps people and the environment.
Irrigating with rainwater
Soft rainwater is ideal for plants in the garden. Many plants tolerate rainwater better than hard drinking water. Garden ponds can also be filled with rainwater. The use of rainwater for watering the garden is hygienically safe. To use rainwater, the run-off rainwater can be directed into a rain barrel. This type of use is the simplest and most sensible option.
However, you should only use rainwater from unproblematic roof surfaces: Roofs, some of which are made of copper or zinc, can wash away soluble or insoluble metal compounds that are harmful to the environment.
