The structural change in sport has not stopped at the Rot-Weiß Germania soccer club. Structural change here - as at many other soccer grounds in Dortmund - means that games are no longer played on clay but on artificial turf.

The club fought for a long time to make this possible.

In the fall of 2015, the time had finally come: the new artificial turf pitch could be opened. Six months of intensive planning and construction came to an end for the club.

Rot-Weiß-Germania is still responsible for ensuring that the pitch remains in good condition and playable. Sometimes that is not so easy. The pitch is not only popular with footballers, it is also used as a dog exercise and walking area, for picnics and as a barbecue area.

However, all of this is prohibited because it damages the artificial turf.

So here's an urgent appeal: if you want to eat a sausage or drink a coffee on the pitch, come to Rot-Weiß Germania matches, stand on the sidelines with a drink and sausage and support us as the 12th man/woman.

Incidentally, the sports ground has been around "forever". It can even be seen on 100-year-old aerial photographs, surrounded on all sides by fields and gardens back then.
